Great Britain’s Team Audevard finish fifth in a hard-fought, closely contended Longines EEF Series CSIO3* of Drammen

Great Britain’s Team Audevard stood fifth in the Longines EEF Series 3* Nations Cup of Drammen in Norway, in a tight competition where one fault separated five teams.

Ten teams contended this team competition over a 12-fence, 15-effort 1.50m track designed by Bart Vonck with four teams neck-and-neck in the first round.

“It was a strong course and there were a lot of established riders out here.  We were by far the youngest team with the majority of young riders gaining team experience with the Young Rider European Championships in mind, but they nailed it.  We were only one time fault off joining the jump-off, I was chuffed with them,” said Chef d Equipe Tracey Newman.

First out for Team Audevard, Lauren Caroline jumped a flawless round on the 11-year-old Casago Du Rouet PS (Casallco x Vigo D’Arsuoilles) to post an initial clear for Britain.  Amelie Gachoud also posted an immaculate clear aboard the 15-year-old Lancaster (Fantomas De Muze x Crown Z), and when Olivia Sponer followed suit on Jennifer Sponer’s 15-year-old Bingo Du Chateau (Quaprice Bois Margot x Royal Feu), Team Audevard was on a roll, touting a zero score at the halfway stage from the first three riders.  Anchor Charlotte Ash jumped despite not being required but suffered a blip at the combination with Irma-Riende and opted to retire.

Britain was joined by the host nation Norway, Germany and The Netherlands – all on a zero score.  There was no room for error at the top.

In round two, pathfinder Lauren and Casago Du Rouet PS again left all the fences intact, but a slightly steadier round picked up one time fault, and they missed out on a double clear.  Amelie made no such error with Lancaster, and the pair sailed through the finish on a double clear – one of 12 in the competition.  Team Audevard was in contention.

Olivia looked to be supplying a clear until Bingo Du Chateau clipped the vertical going into the penultimate double for four faults, and it didn’t go according to plan for Charlotte when Irma-Riende took exception to the combination.

“Charlotte’s horse has some experience but didn’t have the best shot to the second fence and is so careful, became upset.  That’s horses.  The other girls really stepped up and were fantastic team players and supported each other,” said Tracey.

Team Audevard finished on five faults to be denied a jump-off chance and a podium place by one fault.  Norway, Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands all finished on a four-fault total for a nail-biting jump-off, each nominating one rider.  Home team Norway produced the best result for victory by 0.52 seconds.  Belgium claimed second with Germany also jumping clear for third while The Netherlands finished on four faults for fourth.
