Adrian Whiteway Wins Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round at SouthView Equestrian Centre

Adrian Whiteway took on the challenge of the Connelly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round at Southview Equestrian Centre in Wettenhall, Cheshire on Friday and he secured the win on board Myles Browning’s Contendros Quest.

Drawing a huge turnout of one hundred and twenty two competitors, the battle was on to claim one of the two direct qualification spots up for grabs for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final which will be held at this year’s Horse of the Year Show in October. Just twenty-three combinations made the cut for the final jump off where the action really heated up. As poles fell, the clock as ever played an all important role.

Adrian from Wraxall, Bristol took the top spot with the 7 year-old bay mare Contendros Quest. Crossing the finish line in less than 40 seconds, this pair produced their accurate treble clear in 38.81 seconds.

Second place went to Louise Whitaker from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and she was riding Cleopatra VIII, a 10 year-old chestnut mare owned by Team Harmony. This combination was drawn close to the end of the jump off and they used this to their advantage, scoping out the course well enough to produce a treble clear in 39.26 seconds.

With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show, the riders and horses that finished in third to twelfth with a triple clear missed out on Championship qualification this time around. They did however take home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
