Amanda Derbyshire clinched victory in the Back on Track $70,000 2* Grand Prix in Tryon, The USA, with seasoned campaigner Cornwall.
Twenty-four riders made the trip around the 1.45m Grand Prix track with the technicalities catching out all but five of the contenders, and they returned for the jump-off.
Amanda outpaced them all on the evergreen 18-year-old Holsteiner Cornwall, cutting corners at pace to secure the win by just 0.14 seconds.
Amanda had picked up second in the early 1.40m two-phase with Billy Raindrop, the Plot Blue x Cevin Z eight-year-old finishing 1.06 seconds behind the pace.
Robert Whitaker is on the podium at the 5* Spruce Meadows ‘Pan American’ with Strike A Pose
Robert Whitaker and rising star Strike A Pose claimed third in the Friends of the Meadows Cup at the Spruce Meadows ‘Pan American’ in Calgary, Canada.
Fifty-three competitors set out around course-designer Anderson Lima’s 13-fence, 16-effort 1.50m track with technical questions in the vast grass arena requiring power, accuracy and rideability. Only six answered every question to access the jump-off, and Robert sensibly aimed to jump another accurate clear with the talented but inexperienced at this level nine-year-old by his former five-star ride Catwalk IV.
He achieved his aim to slot into third with the steadiest of the double clears, almost 10 seconds behind the winner.
