Another week of International Success for British Riders

Nicole Pavitt and Cornet of Follyfoot take a win at the World Breeding Championships

British horses featured in the age consolation classes at the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championships for Young Horses at Lanaken in Belgium, with Nicole Pavitt winning the Seven-year-old on Cornet of Follyfoot.

Eighty-five horses contended this speed class over a 12-fence 1.40m track with Nicole outpacing all her rivals on Sally Jobson-Scott’s speedy Cornet Obolensky x Quidam De Revel gelding to win by an impressive 1.46 seconds.

Harry Bateman and the British-bred Strike A Pose had to settle for second by the narrowest of margins in the Six-year-old Consolation.  It was nevertheless a notable achievement as 132 contended the speed competition over the 12-fence, 14-effort 1.35m course with Harry and Vicky Golding’s home-bred Pankake x Chellano finishing only 0.01 second behind the winner.

Thomas Pritchard riding Roland and Sophie Wallace’s home-bred Princess SW finished second in the Five-year-old Consolation.  Again, it was a very fast class with 128 coming forward over the 12-fence 1.25m speed track, Thomas and Princess SW (Eldorado Van De Zeshoek x Captain Clover) just 0.04 seconds off the winning time.

The 50 starters who came forward to face the 1.45m track and were reduced to 15 for the jump-off with Ben and the Cicero Van Paemel x Grandeur 11-year-old – usually ridden by USA’s Natalie Dean – forging ahead to win by 0.68 seconds.

Millie Allen claimed second in the 2* Grand Prix aboard Clearround Il Mondo Z.  Thirty-one of the original 69 competitors qualified for the jump-off, Millie – who is now based in Belgium with Karel Cox Horses BV – easing the Comme Il Faut x Clearway eight-year-old into the runner-up spot only 0.25 seconds behind the winner.

Jack Whitaker was in the money in the 3* 1.50m classes.  Jack picked up third in the initial 74-strong 3* 1.50m speed riding Equine America Valmy De La Lande, the Mylord Carthago 15-year-old finishing 2.38 seconds behind the winner, Germany’s Nicola Pohl on Arlo De Blondel, a 15-year-old formerly ridden by his father Michael Whitaker.

Jack also finished third in the ClipMyHorse 3* 1.50m with Lente.  The 68 starters were reduced to 12 for round two against the clock, Jack and the Grandorado TN x Tygo eight-year-old mare finishing 0.36 seconds off the winning time.  Joe Stockdale was hot on his heels for fourth riding Equine America Cacharel.

Joe guided Colin Garratt’s Equine Rescue Services Kandleford into second in the 36-horse 3* 1.45m speed, the Kannan x Pythagoras 15-year-old – bred by David Broome – finishing 0.86 seconds in arrears of the winner.
