Laura Renwick Claims International Stairway Victory at the Royal Norfolk Show

Laura Renwick tops a competitive jump-off to secure the International Stairway title

The prestigious International Stairway class took centre stage at the Royal Norfolk Show on Thursday, where 12 horse and rider combinations came forward to tackle Kelvin Bywater's technical course.

The opening round proved to be a true test, with just six combinations producing faultless performances to earn their place in an exciting jump-off. With the title on the line, riders had to balance speed with precision, creating a thrilling finale for the Norfolk crowd.

It was Laura Renwick who came out on top aboard her own Marseille, producing a fast and accurate clear round to stop the clock in 44.04 seconds and secure victory.

Second place went to Sammie Coffin riding Chaccomo Blue, who also delivered a superb clear round, finishing just fractions behind the winners in 44.70 seconds.

Laura Renwick completed an excellent afternoon by also claiming third place with NFS Top Gun, adding another clear round in 46.12 seconds to round off an impressive performance.

“We had a fantastic couple of days at the show. My eight year old Top Gun, that was his first Stairway, he was first to go clear of the two, he jumped fantastic. Marseille was later on to go and jumped a peach of a round, they both jumped double clear. They were also first and second in the Area Trial the day before which was fabulous, to jump double clear on both was great.

“I was first to go on the younger horse, Top Gun and he jumped a great clear, then I was last to go with Marseille. Sammy [Jo Coffin] had just pipped me on the other horse, so I had nothing to lose really, as I was already second with Top Gun. I just let Marseille go a bit, and we just got there, so I’m really happy with the result. I couldn’t have asked more from either horse; they both performed great and the ground was superb there, it was fantastic going, as it is every year. The courses were great, Kelvin [Bywater] was sensible the first day, not overly technical and a kind course, obviously, for the Stairway you have to build to a certain level, which he did. The horses that got a clear were all good horses; it was a good class with good competition. The horses were just pinging off the fabulous ground.

“We will go to Bolesworth on Wednesday, so will get a bit of a break before heading there.” Laura said.

The International Stairway takes place across a number of county shows throughout the season, with winning combinations accruing league points that count towards the Final at the British Showjumping National Championships in August at Stoneleigh Park.

The series culminates in a high-profile championship where not only is the National Champion crowned, but three coveted Horse of the Year Show International Wild Cards are also up for grabs, adding even more excitement and prestige to the competition.

The International Stairway Series is supported by the British Showjumping Business Partnership, which includes ClipMyHorse.TV, Charles Owen, HorseQuest, Equine Bio Genie and Zebra Products, to whom everyone at British Showjumping is extremely grateful.
