Douglas Duffin finishes 3rd in CSIO 3* Drammen Grand Prix,

Sunday 08 May 2016

A superb double clear, one of only four achieved within the CSIO 3* Grand Prix at Drammen, placed Douglas Duffin 3rd this afternoon in a hard fought Grand Prix which was won by Gregory Wathelet for Belgium with Quasi Modo Z.

Gregory’s second-round time of 37.37 seconds was enough for him to secure pole position with Jur Vrieling for the Netherlands and Arezzo slotting into 2nd place in a time of 39.95 seconds.  Douglas and Quidam BZ an 11 year-old bay stallion he jointly owns with Richard Jenkinson looked superb in both rounds, building on the clear that they delivered in the second round of the Nations Cup on Friday.  Stopping the clock just a fraction of a second slower in a time of 40.33 seconds they relegated Daniel Svensson for Sweden, the only other double clear competitor, into 4th position.

Paul Kennedy for Ireland with Cartown Danger Mouse took 5th whilst GB’s James Billington, who is based in the Netherlands, and VDL Cartello a 9 year-old grey stallion owned by VDL Stud finished in 6th place.  Clear in the first round they incurred 4 penalties in the jump off within a very fast time of 38.26 seconds.

Joe Whitaker with Lola owned by Steven Whitaker and Dawn Makin, finished in 8th place.  Again a great clear in the first round saw them qualify for the jump off, but a fence down resulted in 4 penalties accrued in their time of 39.27 seconds.

Kerry Brennan ensured a Union Flag was flying yesterday when she won the CSIO 3* Gold Small Tour Table A.  Riding Dyanmic III, an 8 year-old bay gelding owned by Liane Smith she managed to put a time in almost four seconds ahead the rest of the field.   Pal Flam for Norway took 2nd place with Bobby Balou in a time of 59.35 seconds well Pal’s fellow compatriot Ole Kristoffer Meland took 3rd with Decorette in 59.76 seconds.
