Emma Crawford is Crowned Winner of Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre

Sunday saw fifty-four competitors fight it out in the first Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round of 2016 which was held at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre in Bulkington, Warwickshire.

With three direct qualifying places at stake for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at this October’s Horse of the Year Show, each starter was hoping to grab one of these places for their very own. Following the first two rounds of the class, seven combinations achieved two clears and this saw them go through to the final jump off.

Sixteen year-old Emma Crawford from Cupar, Fife was drawn as the penultimate competitor to go on Lynn Crawford’s 8 year-old bay gelding Mullingar Bay and she laid down an unbeatable result. Emma secured a treble clear in 38.85 seconds and this time was to leave over four seconds ahead of her nearest rival.

Second place was scooped by 15 year-old Robert Murphy from Preston, Lancashire and he took his place inside the top two on board Opto-Mist, a 12 year-old grey gelding owned by John and Amanda Carpenter. Robert also delivered an immaculate treble clear and did so in 42.98 seconds.

The third and final Horse of the Year Show place was taken by 15 year-old Maia Andrews from Crowthorne, Berkshire and she rode Tania Andrews’ 11 year-old dark bay gelding AKM Beech Comber. This combination achieved a treble clear in 45.30 seconds.

With the three direct qualifying tickets for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show having been allocated, the combinations in fourth and fifth took home the chance to compete in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
