Laura Renwick steams ahead at the CSI 4* Royal Windsor Horse Show this afternoon

Saturday 14 May 2016

Laura Renwick with Colin Bates’ 9 year-old chestnut gelding Helidor Hybris flew the flag for Great Britain today at the CSI 4* Royal Windsor Horse Show when she won the Falcon Stakes – Winning Round 1.45m competition.

An incredible performance saw her achieve a jump off clear with over a second lead time to secure the title as her own and relegate Italy’s Lorenzo de Luca with Halifax Van Het Kluizebos into 2nd place.

With just over thirty starters coming forward it was an incredibly hard fought competition with a high number of them jumping clear in the first round and less than two seconds separating the top four.    Rodrigo Pessoa for Brazil with Winsom took 3rd whilst Robert Smith with his own and Karina Reily’s bay gelding Ilton took 4th.   John Whitaker with Lord of Arabia, an 8 year-old bay gelding took 5th whilst Kent Farrington for the USA took 6th with Aron S.

The morning had also seen Laura placed as the highest Brit in the earlier class, the Kingdom of Bahrain Stakes for the Kings Cup.

It was thirty five combinations that came forward for this CSI 4* 1.55m competition with a total of eight who jumped clear in the first round with Laura being joined by fellow Brit Joe Davison with Team Harmony’s 14 year-old bay gelding Calimero Van’t Roth.   Sterling rounds by both riders saw them jump clear once again in the jump-off round however they just couldn’t catch Kent Farrington with Creedence for the USA who took the win in a time of 31.86 seconds.   Canada slotted into 2nd with Tiffany Foster and Victor breaking the finish line in a time of 33.46 seconds whilst Italy’s Piergiorgio Bucci had to resign himself to a 3rd place finish with Casallo Z having stopped the clock just a fraction of a second slower in 33.54 seconds.

Laura and Bintang looked extremely solid in both rounds, however their time of 34.54 seconds just wasn’t enough to position them higher than 4th whilst Joe took 5th in 36.79 seconds as last of the double clears in 36.79 seconds.
