Lottie Tutt Leaps to Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round Victory at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre

A bumper field of 115 starters came forward for the first of this year’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Rounds at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre in Bulkington, Warwickshire this Saturday as the class proved to be an integral part of the Pony Premier Show.

An extremely competitive competition ensued as each starter got their Championship Final qualifying campaign underway. Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying places for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show.

From the initial starting field, just eleven combinations went on to produce the two clear rounds needed to make it through into the final jump off. The Championship Final places were then picked up by the only two combinations able to produce treble clears.

The quickest treble clear came from 14 year-old Lottie Tutt from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and she landed this result on Market Angel, a 6 year-old bay mare owned by Derek Ricketts. This combination produced their flawless treble clear in an ultra-fast time of 46.12 seconds.

Fifteen year-old Isabelle Watson from Whitchurch, Shropshire secured the only other treble clear of the class on board Tracy Watson’s 11 year-old chestnut gelding Glyceiriog Duke. The combination stopped the clock on 55.82 seconds with all of the poles still standing.

With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show, the riders and ponies that finished in third to fifth missed out on Championship qualification this time around. They did however take home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
