Millie Boreham and Kimberley Gowing take home the final tickets to the STX UK Pony Novice Final

Parwood Equestrian Centred hosted the penultimate STX Pony British Novice Second Round competition, where hopeful young riders had to secure their ticket to the final, held at the British Showjumping National Championships in August.

10 hopeful combinations came forward for this class with five jumping clear  in the first two rounds to reach the final jump-off. Millie Boreham came out on top with Tarkasbrook Stud’s Tarkasbrook Chilli Pepper, the pair jumping the sole triple clear of the day in a time of 40.27 seconds. Isabella Beaumont and Donna Beaumont’s Correal Emma jumped fastest around the jump-off but with one pole hitting the sand saw them slot into second place whilst Millie Calver picked up third with Jemma Calver’s Rosehill Bolt.

In the Pony Discovery Second Round, Lola Thulborn emerged victorious against her competition with Alison Swait’s Auburn Lucie, almost 8 seconds ahead of second placed Tabitha Rose Callow, who piloted Faye Callow’s Vera 11. Kitty Pritchard picked up third place with a fast four fault round aboard Lucy-Ann Pritchard’s Alnebury Brandy Boy.

The action continued in the final STX Pony British Novice Second Round competition which took place at Norfolk Showjumping Club.

On this occasion, Kimberley Gowing led the way with Kate Gowing’s seven-year-old dun gelding Tra Bhain Cisco, finishing almost 10 seconds ahead of her rivals in a time of 35.47 seconds. Lola Batch picked up second place with Kelly Self’s 14-year-old gelding Reign, finishing in a time of 44.92 seconds. Lily Newson, riding Wendy Willis’ 10-year-old gelding Swaggermuffin, slotted into third place with the fastest four faults in round two.

“I thought the round went really well. I haven’t ridden for a week so I didn’t have too many expectations, but I was hopeful to get a clear. This was the last qualifier we could go to and he just performed amazingly well against other great competitors,” said Kimberly.

“He’s still young and is quite a sensitive pony but he’s come on so well and really pulled it out the bag to win. We’ve been training with Simon Crippen once a week who is amazing and has really helped us perform our best.

“I’m really looking forward to going to the National Championships and I’m over the moon to have qualified for four finals. I jumped double clear and finished 13th in this final last year so I would really love to do that again and hopefully place in the top 10,” added Kimberly.

In the Pony Discovery Second Round, Nancy-Lou Gilbert took home top honours with Lucy Gilbert’s Roo Trump as the only rider to keep a clean sheet through the rounds. Harrison Bellamy picked up second place riding Sandra Holloway’s Priti Proposal whilst Alice Wright slotted into third place aboard Naomi Wright’s Kingfisher Ben.
