Shaunie Greig Succeeds in The Stable Company HOYS 138cms Qualifier at Sparsholt College

Forty-six combinations did not let the rain dampen their spirits on Saturday as they fought it out for victory in The Stable Company HOYS 138cms Qualifier at Sparsholt College in Winchester, Hampshire.

With the weather on Saturday as fierce as the competition, the hardy spectators were in for a treat as riders focused on finishing in the top three to ensure their place in The Stable Company HOYS 138cms Championship Final held at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show in October.

The first two rounds saw poles fall and competitor numbers diminish until just five combinations remained in contention. In the final jump off, all five aimed for a treble clear and three went on to achieve it.

It was 13 year-old Shaunie Greig from Camelon, Falkirk who took first place on board Picatchu, an 11 year-old appaloosa mare owned by Ron Brady. Drawn first in the final jump off, Shaunie really set the standard, producing a speedy and accurate treble clear in just 32.90 seconds, a time which proved to be unbeatable.

Second place went to 14 year-old Isabelle Ryder from Thatcham, Berkshire riding 23 year-old grey gelding The Agent owned by Simon Ryder. Following hot on Shaunie heels, Isabelle and The Agent were the only other pair to achieve a treble clear in less than 40 seconds and they did so in a time of 35.22 seconds.

Fourteen year-old Emma Cook form Crieff, Perthshire took home third place with the final treble clear of the class. On board Phillipa Cooks’ 15 year-old grey gelding, Lennon Prince, Emma finished in a time of 40.31 seconds.
