Amanda Derbyshire cruises to a Spruce Meadows win on Otto BH

Amanda Derbyshire landed the win in Friday’s top billed RBC Capital Markets Cup with Otto BH at Spruce Meadows National in Calgary, Canada.

Thirty-nine competitors challenged course-designer Olaf Petersen Jr’s 12-fence, 15-effort 1.50m track and 10 of the 11 initial clears returned to contend the jump-off. Ireland’s Conor Swail was looking to add to his tally and seemingly had it in the bag with his early attempt but Amanda proved him wrong in some style. Riding the 11-year-old Norton D’Eole x Toulon stallion Otto BH, Amanda made short work of the raised track to sail through the finish beams with 0.89 sec to spare.

“It’s a whole different ball game out there in the International Ring, it very much reminds me of the big, famous rings of Hickstead and Aachen; and it’s very special to ride in them,” said Amanda, on stepping through the iconic Spruce Meadows Clocktower to reach the International Ring beyond.
