ZURICH CSI 5*W

The CSI 5* show at Zurich saw William Whitaker finish the highest placed Brit in the World Cup Qualifier.  Aboard Utamaro d’Ecaussines, the 13 year-old bay stallion owned by Ludwig Criel, they were one of the five combinations to achieve a double clear from the field of just under forty starters.

It was Eduardo Alvarez Aznar (ESP) with Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Mar that took first place with a time of 36.20 seconds.  The next three placings were separated by less than a second with all of them finishing in the 38 second barrier.  Max Kuhner (AUT) and Cornet Kalua took 2nd  in 38.03 seconds whilst Carlos Enrique Lopez Lizarazo (COL) secured 3rd in a time of 38.43 seconds.  William was just behind them, having stopped the clock at 38.82 seconds, to take 4th  place relegating Marco Kutscher (GER) and Clenur into 5th.  Fellow GB rider Michael Whitaker with Viking picked up 4 penalties in the first round to finish in 15th place.

AMSTERDAM CSI 4*
John Whitaker and Team Harmony’s 12 year-old bay mare Onellaia finished 6th in the Hastens 1.45m Accumulator having accrued the maximum 65 points within a time of 53.56 seconds behind Lisa Nooren (NED) with VDL Groep Urane de Talma who finished in 50.03 seconds.  It was a 10th place finish for them in the Grand Prix having incurred a time penalty in what was otherwise a foot-perfect clear round albeit just outside the time allowed.

OLIVA CSI 2*
It was a win for Holly Smith and her 9 year-old Quality Old Joker in the 1.45m Grand Prix in Oliva, Spain.  One of nine double clears, from a field of fifty-two starters, they set a scorching time of 35.10 seconds which just couldn’t be matched.  Hot on their heels was Irelands Alex Duffy with Wce Cruco who stopped the clock slightly slower in 35.27 seconds, the only other competitor to break the 36 second barrier.  Saturday had also seen Holly take 2nd place with the 9 year-old Lammy Beach in the 1.45m Table A class.

British riders also featured heavily further down the line up with Tim Wilks and Quelbora Merze, Emma Stoker and Townhead Tallulah V, Jemma Kirk and Quelist, Louise Simpson and Grafit along with Anna Power and Blazer B also having jumped double clear and taking 5th – 9th place respectively. Sunday morning had also seen Daniel Neilson and Ciruss finished 2nd in the opening 1.35m class of  the day with Jonathan Buxton and High Offley Arturos Catch finished in 4th.  This followed his 6th place finish on Saturday in the 1.45 Table A with Major Delacour.   Anna Power and the 11 year-old Chesterfield led the way in Saturday’s 1.30m Table A with her incredibly fast clear in a time of 59.48 seconds ahead of Manuel Pinto (ESP) and Narbonne Z who finished 2nd in 60.59 seconds.

Friday had seen Jemma Kirk and Quelisto finish 2nd in the 1.45m Two-Phase with Emma Stoker and Townhead Tallulah taking 3rd.  Their times were extremely fast to see them near the top of the line up ahead of the twelve strong field that came forward for the jump off.  The winning time was posted by Julien Epaillard (FRA).  Jemma Kirk finished in 3rd place in the 1.40m Table A with Tchoupi Pironniere whilst Louise Simpson and Grafit took 4th.
