Dodson & Horrell 1.05m and 1.10m National Amateur Second Rounds at Brook Farm Training Centre

On the penultimate weekend of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds, competitors made the journey to Brook Farm Training Centre in Romford, Essex to compete in the 1.05m and 1.10m classes.

With qualification for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, held at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 16th – 20th November,  within touching distance, the two second rounds proved to be fiercely contested.

From final draw in a strong seven horse jump off, Lizzy Knight from Maidstone, Kent eyed up the competition perfectly to steer her 8 year-old bay mare Lola De Reve straight into the top spot. This partnership broke the forty second barrier and crossed the finish line with a double clear in 38.62 seconds.

Second place was scooped up by local rider Lisa Collins on her own 16 year-old bay gelding Toronto VI. This pair posted a fantastic double clear in 40.26 seconds.

Chloe Flynn from Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire took third place on board Kym Flynn’s 13 year-old bay gelding, Wijnand, after they produced a double clear in 43.68 seconds.

Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round

With three determined combinations making it through to the final jump off, qualification was assured but the top spot was still up for grabs.

Jade Meekings from Felsted, Essex was well aware of this as she gave a scorching performance on board her 10 year-old palomino mare, Pauls Lass, to cross the finish line with the only double clear of the class in 34.30 seconds.

An unfortunate pole fell at the first fence for Alice Ellison from Cambridge on Sacha Ellison’s 10 year-old bay mare, Britney IV, and this saw them finish in second place overall on 4 faults in 38.45 seconds.

Taking third place was Nicola Attenborrow from Maldon, Essex on board her own 13 year-old bay mare, Poplars Florentina. This pair came home with 4 faults in 41.80 seconds after knocking a pole early on in the course.
