Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Cabin Equestrian Riding Club

The final set of Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds took place this weekend with Cabin Equestrian Riding Club in Keith Hall, Inverurie holding the 85cm, 95cm, 1.05m and 1.10m second round classes. Combinations from across Scotland contested the classes with the hopes of securing a qualifying ticket to the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool between 9 - 14 November.

Twelve combinations in the 85cm Second Round completed the ten-fence course designed by Diane Johnston clear in the first round. Linda Ramsoy from Lybster, Caithness claimed the win with the 9 year-old bay mare Hinkelien owned by Sophia Ramsoy. Linda had her foot on the gas to cross the finish line in 41.60 seconds. Taking the runner up spot was Jessica Murray and Divanov on 42.96 seconds.

In the 95cm Second Round, three of the initial starting combinations negotiated a first round clear across the nine fence track. Aberdeen’s Claire Stewart came out on top with the 15 year-old rose grey mare Clone Temptress owned by Kelly Donald. Claire’s faultless double clear clinched the win with a time of 42.06 seconds. Taking second place with an unlucky four faults was Aileen Ferrari and Watermark I.

Nine combinations came forward to tackle the 1.05m track, with Aileen Ferrari from Forres, Morayshire claiming first place on her own 14 year-old bay gelding Storm Ahead Ted. Aileen produced a faultless double clear to take the win, crossing the finish line in 43.96 seconds. The runner up slot with an unfortunate four faults was filled by Leigh Clark and Cocos Dream.

Finishing the second round classes was the 1.10m track and it was fiercely contested. Sixteen year-old Melissa Allan from Banchory, Kincardineshire rode tight lines to take the win with the 11 year-old bay mare Firenze III owned by Joanne Allan stopping the clock on 36.52 seconds. Close on their heels was Katherine Mckellar and RJM Lucky Lad on 36.94 seconds.

Eight qualifying tickets are given for each of the four classes which are allocated once official grading has been completed. Those qualified for the championships in their specific height category can be found here.
