Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Eland Lodge Equestrian

The fourth Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds took place this weekend with Eland Lodge Equestrian in Ashbourne, Derbyshire holding the 85cm, 95cm, 1.05m and 1.10m second round classes. Combinations from across the East Midlands contested the classes with the hopes of securing a qualifying ticket to the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool between 9 - 14 November.

Nine of the starting field in the 85cm Second Round navigated a first round clear across the course designed by Nick Staines with four going on to scoop a double clear. Amy Knobbs from Rugeley, Staffordshire claimed the top spot with over 5 seconds in hand aboard her own 10 year-old skewbald mare Floras Circus in 39.06 seconds. Taking the runner up spot was Francess Ifan and Ranchella Savanah Sunset who crossed the finish line in 44.54 seconds.

In the 95cm Second Round, eight of the initial starting combinations negotiated a first round clear across the twelve fence track. Staffordshire’s Louise Webb came out on top with her own Chequidam Z, a 10 year-old liver chestnut gelding as they raced home in 41.71 seconds. Close on their heels and taking second place was Emma Sargeant and Fabian V on 42.10 seconds.

Ten combinations came forward to tackle the 1.05m track, with Grace Wallace from Nantwich, Cheshire claiming first place on Victoria Wallace’s 13 year-old bay mare Ilena VD Bisschop. Grace produced a faultless double clear to cross the finish line in a time of 52.50 seconds. The runner up slot was filled by Kyla Van Klaveren and I am Du Cerisier.

Finishing the second round classes was the 1.10m track with eight combinations completing the eleven fence course clear in the first round. Derbyshire’s Mark Thomas had his foot firmly on the gas to take first place crossing the finishing line in 28.60 seconds with Silvarno a 11 year-old grey gelding owned by Ryan Page. Just behind them was Katie Shaw and Fools Business on 28.71 seconds.

Eight qualifying tickets are given for each of the four classes which are allocated once official grading has been completed. Those qualified for the championships in their specific height category can be found here.
