Emma Smith Claims Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Second Round Victory at Norfolk Show Jumping Club
Wednesday 08 July 2026
Emma Smith secured top honours in the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Second Round at Norfolk Show Jumping Club, producing the quickest clear round in an exciting jump-off to qualify for the British Showjumping National Championships Final.
Twenty horse-and-rider combinations came forward to tackle Toby Bancroft's course, with the track providing a fair but challenging test throughout the competition. Eight combinations successfully negotiated both the first and second rounds without fault to earn their place in the decisive jump-off.
Setting an impressive pace against the clock, Emma Smith guided her own Olady Van De Baanse to a superb clear round in 43.58 seconds, securing victory and a coveted place in the championship final.
Jonathan Egmore claimed second place aboard Cuby SZ, also producing a faultless jump-off round in 44.83 seconds, while Lola-Rae Travers completed the podium with Emily Clifton's Lorretta II, stopping the clock clear in 45.06 seconds.
With qualification now secured, the leading combinations will turn their attention to the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Championship Final at the British Showjumping National Championships, where they will compete for the national title.
"I bought Bird as an unbacked three year old, she was slightly feral. She’s seven now, we have taken our time with her and I was injured last year so had a quiet year, we got going again over the winter. It was a surprise to win as we didn’t have a great round in the Novice second round the day before but I was determined, and we managed to get the three double clears with a bit of speed to win.
Norfolk SJC is a great venue with a nice, big grass ring which really suited my mare, she’s got a lovely long stride and loves to jump outdoors so the initial rounds went really well for us. Quite a lot were clear in the first round, it was a nice introductory course but then it did go up. We were drawn fairly late on in the jump off, seventeenth to go. We managed to pick up a bit of speed, which is surprising for us as we are usually a bit slow! Showjumping is quite new to me, we usually event or do other things, so being in the big grass ring was a real treat! There were eight through to the jump off, I haven’t done a second round before but knew it could go up fairy big which it did. Bird is very scopey so I knew she wouldn’t worry about the height, it was just if I could get everything organised with a little bit of speed. Which we did!
We are really looking forward to the Championships, I am in the army and part of the Military showjumping team, so we are getting some great training and have a few competitions coming up with them. That will keep us busy before and after the Championships, so the Nupafeed Supplements Discovery Championship will be our main aim for BS this season."
