Holly Smith wins the Derby of the Loire Region at La Baule

 

It was a victory for Great Britain today when Holly Smith took the Derby of the Loire Region title, a class that is a has a long standing history at La Baule and one that everyone would like to claim as their own.

Holly’s performance, aboard 11 year-old Fruselli, will now see her name registered on the prestigious record of former winners which include multiple Hickstead Derby winner Will Funnell.  It was fourteen combinations that came forward the Frederic Cottier(FRA) designed course that took in 21 obstacles requiring 24 jumping effords.  The long course certainly took it's toll for many with Holly being the sole rider that managed to achieve a clear and in turn claim her  position at the head of the line up. 

Home rider Nicolas Delmotte (FRA) was the fastest on 4 penalties who took 2nd place whilst Martin Fuchs (SUI) took 3rd.   Holly’s fellow team rider Emily Moffitt (GBR), who jumped double clear in the Nations Cup yesterday, finish 4th giving GB additional presence in the line-up.
