James Winter takes third place in the Young Rider Grand Prix at the FEI Jumping Nations Cup Youth Finals

In a hard fought Young Rider Grand Prix at the FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Youth Finals in Opglabbeek, Belgium, 19 year-old James Winter from Chepstow, Gwent delivered two solid rounds to take a third place finish.

James was on board Garande, an 8 year-old bay mare owned by Elizabeth Winter and they were one of only five combinations to make it through into the jump off from the thirty-two strong starting field.

Just two pairs were able to jump a double clear in a tough class and the winning round came from the USA’s Giavanna Rinaldi on Concuela. They set an unbeatable time of 42.78 seconds which saw Switzerland’s Alexandra Amar and Unplusion de la Hart pushed into second place with their time of 43.37 seconds. James and Garande picked up 8 penalties in the jump off in 46.11 seconds but this was enough to see them finish in third.

Yesterday saw the Team NAF Children, Juniors and Young Riders all qualify for their respective Nations Cup Final Competitions on Sunday. The Children finished their first round in equal fourth place on just 4 penalties whilst the Juniors and Young Riders finished in fifth.
