Lisa Jones flies to victory in the Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Round at Willow Banks Equestrian Centre

Lisa Jones is bound for the British Showjumping National Championships with Zevusina BZ after taking victory in the Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Round at Willow Banks Equestrian Centre.

Twenty-five of the 45 starters supplied initial clear rounds over course-designer Piers Warmoth’s 11-fence 1m track to go forward into round two and 14 remained penalty-free to access the final jump-off to decide the results.

Lisa set off determinedly on Chloe Abrahams’ Zurich x Tampa 12-year-old Zevusina, a mare she started competing in February, taking the shortest route to claim a handsome 2.26 second win.  Steph Gunn eased Quickstep I into second place and Phillip Curtis slotted Madam Argento into third.

“I’ve done a lot of flatwork at home with Zevusina to get the rideability and changed her bit from a snaffle to a three-ring gag and it’s worked,” said Lisa.  “The British Novice and Discovery Finals have been our aim, but the win was unexpected, it was the first time I pushed her against the clock.  I think Chloe would have been happy with a triple clear, but I wanted to win!”

Chloe has owned the mare for seven years and competed on the unaffiliated circuit before handing over the reins to Lisa.

“She’s only 15.2hh but loves jumping, it’s her favourite thing to do, and she’s made good progress in a short time,” said Chloe.
