Mark Edwards and Montreuxs Tale wins the South View leg of the International Stairway

The busy three-day show at South View Equestrian Cente in Cheshire drew to a close today with a qualifying leg of the International Stairway series which attracted a strong field all hoping to gain some of the lucrative league points on offer.

The International Stairway series, which culminates at the National Championships, sees the British Showjumping National Champion crowned at the Final each year in addition to International Invites being extended to the winner of both the Final and the league. Today's class brought with it, as it always does, some great competition and a starting list of riders who all had their eyes set on securing their place in the line-up.

The first round saw six combinations jump clear to qualify for the timed jump-off and it was Mark Edwards from South Glamorgan with Montreuxs Tale, an 11 year-old British bred gelding owned by Martyn Edwards, that proved untouchable with his clear in a time of 35.52 seconds.  Four further jump-off clears were achieved but it was only Mark that managed to jumpe clear and break the 36 second barrier to claim the win.  Adrian Speight on Millfield Baloney proved to be their closest rival when they stopped the clock in 36.63 seconds to take 2nd place.  Mennell Watson and Whisper in the Wind took 3rd whilst Keith Shore and Mystic Hurricane 4th with their times of 38.32 and 40.40 respectively. 5th place went to David Coombs and Freddie 55 who were the final combination to achieve a double clear whilst Tim Davies and Nielson took 6th having picked up 8 penalties in a very fast time of 35.79 seconds.

The International Stairway now moves on to Devon County Show before heading North to the Great Yorkshire Show and the Royal Lancashire before the Final in August at Stoneleigh Park.

The International Stairway is supported by the British Showjumping Partnership with funding from partners including Charles Owen, KBIS Insurance, NAF and Zebra Products.
