Mark Edwards lands the win in the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS grade C at his local Vale of Glamorgan Show

Mark Edwards commanded victory in his home country of Wales to take the top HOYS ticket in the British Horse Feed Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C qualifier at the Vale of Glamorgan annual show on Jafabalou.

“This is the first time at HOYS for the owners, Neil and Amber Bundock, and for the horse – I’m really pleased for them,” said Mark.  “This is a lovely, busy agricultural show and it was nice to get a local win.”

Five competitors successfully negotiated course-designer Kevin Bull’s 12-fence 1.35m track in the grass ring with the on-form Mark claiming two of the rides.  With four posting double clears, it was all about the clock to decide the qualifying places. Mark forged ahead to secure the win with over two seconds to spare on Amber Bundock’s British-bred Balou Du Rouet x Concorde 10-year-old Jafabalou – bred by Rachel Evison out of her and Matthew Boddy’s former ride Rady Third Black.

“He came to us in March and we’ve built his confidence up.  Now he’s big, strong and quick against the clock and there’s a bit of a competitive edge about him,” said Mark.  “He’s won a few international classes over the summer and he’s a nice one to have in the string.”

Second place was another boost for British breeding as Angie Thompson eased into the runner-up position on her home-bred 7-year-old mare Sanavisto – by Mr Visto and out of Angie’s former top ride, the Aldato daughter Oksana W.

Alan Thomas steered the Dutch-bred 9-year-old Jack XII (Ukato x Odermus R) into third spot to take the final qualifying place on offer.
