Michael Duffy & Joseph Trunkfield share Puissance triumph

Saturday 09 October 2021

It was an incredible showcase this evening at Horse of the Year Show when the Puissance played out in front of capacity crowds across five rounds of jumping.

The honours were eventually taken by Michael Duffy (IRL) with Rmf Charly and Joseph Trunkfield (GBR) with Senators Rhondaigo.   This was the second win of the day for Michael who had earlier won the Grandstand Cup with one of his other rides.  This evening though it was the big jumping bay gelding that took him to victory when he was the first to clear the wall at 7ft 2” (2.16m) and it was an elated Michael that punched their air time and time again in the knowledge they had secured themselves at the very least a joint win.

Joseph Trunkfield (GBR) came next with the 8 year-old chestnut gelding Senators Rhondaigo and making it look incredibly easy they cleared the enormous red wall to ensure their position alongside Michael as joint winners.  The roar that erupted after his clear was quite incredible as the packed grandstands rose to their feet in respect of the tremendous sport they had watched play out before them.

It was a 3rd place finish for Guy Williams and Mr Blue Sky who came out in Round 4 when they uncharacteristically touched the wall to see the top block fall.  There were three riders sharing 4th place having picked up 4 penalties apiece in the 3rd round; namely Nathan Bull, Conor McMahon and India Bussey.
