Muirmill Equestrian Centre – Strangles Outbreak

It is with regret that we share news of a confirmed Strangles outbreak at Muirmill Equestrian Centre, Kilmarnock.

Strict biosecurity policies have been implemented to reduce the risk of the disease spreading including quarantine and routine screening tests.  The centre will also remain closed for an approximate six week period until it has been given the all clear that it is safe to open once again.

To assist identifying the first signs of Strangles as early as possible please do visit the specific pages on the British Horse Society website which can be found here.  In addition to giving detailed information in respect of this disease, the link also gives guidance on the ongoing management and prevention of Strangles.

Laura McCabe, Show Organiser at Muirmill Equestrian Centre said “We are hugely disappointed and are doing all we can to ensure the welfare of the horses and ponies we have on site and to ensure the risk of spread is minimised.  We will keep everyone abreast of the situation via updates on our website [www.muirmillec.co.uk]  as further news becomes available.  With regards to those who had entered the qualifier show due to take place this weekend, we would like to reassure them that their entries will be refunded during the course of the next ten days.  We would also like to thank those who had entered for their understanding and to say that we look forward to welcoming everyone back once we are in a position to do so.”

For members that were hoping to compete at Muirmill this weekend please note that the qualifiers have been rescheduled to take place at Morris Equestrian.  Schedules and entries will be available online shortly at www.morrisequestrian.co.uk
