Peter Grayson and One Butterfly Fly to Victory in NAF Five Star Summer Silver League Qualifier at Northallerton Equestrian Centre

Peter Grayson and his own One Butterfly claimed top honours in the NAF Five Star Summer Silver League Qualifier at Northallerton Equestrian Centre at the weekend, producing the fastest of three double clears in an exciting jump-off.
A total of 29 rider combinations came forward to tackle Tracey Strangeways' technical course, with just six combinations successfully jumping clear through the first two rounds to earn their place in the jump-off.
Peter Grayson and One Butterfly delivered a confident and accurate performance when it mattered most, producing a faultless jump-off round in 41.41 seconds to secure victory.
Close behind in second place was Jeanette Powell riding Odi, who also jumped a superb clear in a time of 42.84 seconds.
Third place went to Helen Boyd aboard Skyline of Picobello Z, recording the final double clear of the class with a time of 46.43 seconds.
The successful combinations will now turn their attention to the NAF Five Star Summer Silver League Semi Finals later this summer, where they will bid to secure a coveted place in the NAF Five Star Summer Silver League Final at the Horse of the Year Show this October.
“I have had Butterfly since he was a youngster at three years old, I broke him in and produced him all they way through. I have quite a few young horses now and he’s the oldest one. He won the four year olds a few years ago at Aintree and I’ve been producing him slowly since, he is started to come good now and getting more constant at competitions. We recently jumped the Foxhunter Second Round at Bogenraith qualifying for the Masters, it was the first time he had jumped three rounds and lost a bit of rhythm in the final round so I wanted to jump the Silver League qualifier so he could have a go at three rounds again. I wanted to get the rhythm right in the last round and Butterfly was much better this time. I have been out of showjumping for 10 -15 years racehorse training and came back three or four years ago so jumping three rounds was a bit of a shock to me too!
It all went to plan for us at Northallerton to be honest, he was good in the first and second round. I was able to keep him in more of a rhythm in the jump off this time, I admit a got a bit carried away in the Fox Second Round and had one down early, but we worked it out this time. Horses need to learn how to jump multiple rounds so its good experience for them as they usually jumped a lot of classes single phase now.
We will go to the semi final at Northcote next week and have a go at that, it will be more good experience at three rounds then we head to the Nationals to jump the Masters there. We will take it one round at a time, it would be great to pick up a HOYS qualification, Butterfly is a great character to have around.” Peter told us.
