10 year-old Raphaela Uma Dawson from Reading, Berkshire and Trefriw Eros, known at home as Ernie, jumped straight into first place in the Stepping Stones 128cm Championship Final jump off this afternoon. There were an impressive 18 double clears out of 72 starters in the penultimate class of the day in the Arena 2 at the British Showjumping National & Academy Championships 2021 at NAEC Stoneleigh.
Asked about the competitive class, Raphaela exclaimed “I am so happy, I am proud of him [Ernie]!” The combination showed confidence as they sped their way through the course with a show stopping 30.62 second round in the jump off.
When asked about 13-year-old Ernie, Raphaela continued: “We have been a partnership for around 18months, he’s the best pony in the world.” Proud mum of Raphaela explained how they have had a number of Shetland ponies at home commenting: “Raphaela has trained and broken around 25 Shetlands, we have the champagne ready to crack open later!”
There is no stopping this pair as they get ready to take on the Bronze League tomorrow followed by Academy Championships, and Olympia qualifiers.
In second place was Olivia Brightmore and Country Colour Spot and taking third place was George Sanderson and Elith.
