Top honours in the International Stairway at the Royal Norfolk Show go to Mennell Watson

At the halfway point in the International Stairway Series 2022, it was Mennell Watson, from Solihull in the West Midlands, who clinched the win on Whisper In The Wind, Euro Sport Horses’ 14 year-old bay stallion, at the Royal Norfolk Show,

Course designer Kelvin Bywater set a challenging first round track with all 8 starters picking up faults. Mennell Watson and Whisper In The Wind were the only pair to jump clear, just picking up 1 time fault despite jumping clear. The combination went on the jump clear in the second round, crossing the finishing line in 56.78 seconds to take top spot. Timothy Davies and Lisa Volk‘s Neilson jumped clear in the second round in a time of 55.01 seconds to finish in second place, having picked up 4 faults in the first round. Phillip Miller took third place with Breandon Stud‘s Don Royale in a time of 57.15, picking up 4 faults in each round.

The International Stairway takes place across a number of county shows where winning combinations accrue League Points that count towards the Final which takes place at the British Showjumping National Championships in August at Stoneleigh Park. The series culminates with a high-profile championship where three Horse of the Year Show International Wild Cards are allocated as well as it being where the sports National Champion is crowned.

The International Stairway, supported by the British Showjumping Partnership with funding from sponsors including Charles Owen, KBIS Insurance, NAF and Zebra Products.
