Youth Pathway Coaching Programme

The Youth Pathway Coaching Programme is a new programme from the British Equestrian Federation, funded by Sport England, that has been created in collaboration with the equestrian Olympic and Paralympic disciplines and is designed to develop coaches currently working within the Youth Pathways, by giving them more insight into the holistic approach to athlete development that nurtures potential from a young age.

The coaches that have been selected onto the 2018-19 Programme are:

  •  Eventing: Sharon Hunt, Jonquil Hemming, Christie Wright, Tina Ure and Katie Williams

  •  Showjumping: Mandy Frost, Mia Palles-Clark, Targa Hammond and Nicola McLeish

  •  Dressage: Sophie Wells, Janet Horswill, Joanne Swain, Hannah Biggs and Charlie Hutton

The structure of the Programme will hold up to 12 core sessions delivered cross-discipline, with topics covered ranging from rider empowerment methods and approaches, communication and linguistics, creating an optimal environment to develop talented young equestrian athletes, cognitive and physical development in young athletes and supporting a young athletes' self-determination. There will also be webinars ahead of the workshops to maintain engagement and encourage pre-workshop planning and support from mentor visits to observe coaching practice.
