Each of the starting combinations came forward to compete with the aim of taking home one of the direct qualifying places on offer in each second round for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 19th – 23rd November 2014.

Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Second Round.
This second round was contested by fifteen combinations, eleven of whom produced the first round clear required for a place in the jump off. Just two double clears were eventually produced.

Ellie-Louise Francis, aged 18, from Reading, Berkshire, took victory on her father Thomas’ 10 year-old grey mare Gatestown Diva. Drawn fourth to go in the jump off and with having seen no double clears produced before her; Ellie-Louise knew that a foot perfect round would put her in contention for the win. She went on to deliver a double clear on her ride in 39.54 seconds and this was to prove unbeatable.

Philippa Stanley, 24, from Southampton, Hampshire secured second place with her own 8 year-old chestnut gelding Smart De L Heureux. They produced the second double clear of the class in 45.79 seconds to ensure that they finished inside the top two.

Third place went to 15 year-old Olivia Leaning from Horsham, West Sussex on board her mother Jane’s 11 year-old bay mare All That Jazz X. Picking up 4 faults in the latter part of the course, this combination took their place in the top three after stopping the clock in 35.24 seconds.

An additional eight riders went on to secure their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Championship Final.

The combination set the standard after being drawn first to go in the jump off and they subsequently produced a double clear in 35.58 seconds.

Sophie Coombs, aged 30, from Blandford Forum, Dorset took second place with Rosconael Clover, an 11 year-old grey mare owned by Amanda Farwell. The combination was unfortunate to pick up 4 faults part way through the course, but they secured a good time of 36.05 seconds.
