Equiyd National Amateur Second Rounds at Newbold Verdon Equestrian Centre

Riders and spectators alike gathered at Newbold Verdon Equestrian Centre on the weekend for another Equiyd National Amateur Second Round Competition, where the standard of competition continued to rise. The event showcased exceptional talent, teamwork, and horsemanship across all classes as riders competed for a ticket to the Championship Show held at Aintree Equestrian Centre in November.

Eighteen combinations stepped up to take on course designer Kevin Bull’s 85cm qualifying course. Ten made it through to the jump-off, but it was Donna Cope, riding her own TGF Colour Confetti, who delivered a foot-perfect double clear in 34.94 seconds to take the victory. Samantha Sheffield, riding Inglenooks Hoolie, followed closely behind in 36.42 seconds to claim second place, whilst James Clark, with Isla, completed the top three, clear in 38.17 seconds.

With nine combinations jumping double clear, who would secure a ticket to the championship would be decided by the clock. The competition was tight, but victory went to Laura Frisby, riding her own Bean Cruising, who jumped a decisive clear in 36.27 seconds, finishing just over four seconds ahead of second-placed Robin Fortune, riding his own Ross Caruso, who crossed the finish in 40.34 seconds. Nicola Roe slotted into third place with her own Spring Fair, finishing a further 1.36 seconds in arrears.
