Jumpers Raise Funds for CRY

This happy crowd recently raised an AMAZING amount for an exceptionally good cause. British Showjumping Club Competitors in the Carmarthen area collected more than £1100 (£1132.00 to be precise!) at their Show in March and last week presented a cheque to Gwenfair Mason of the Dean Mason Memorial Fund on behalf of CRY.

CRY is a National Charity whose aim is to prevent sudden cardiac deaths in young people. The Charity do this through raising awareness of the issue, through a national screening programme and by supporting research. Tragically, in almost all cases of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) there are no prior symptoms of a heart defect – so no warnings of what might be to come. Since 1995, CRY has provided screening services for young people all over the country which has been entirely funded by donation and fund raising. Then programme has now has screened many hundreds of thousands of young people across the UK.

Gwenfair’s son, Dean, was tragically lost to YSCD and since then she has worked to highlight the condition and to support CRY in South Wales. Heather Jenkins, and her team including Helen and Roger Evans and Elin Jenkins, who run regular BS Club Shows at Coleg Sir Gar in Carmarthen, were behind the fund raising effort and were present to hand over the cheque.

Further details of the fantastic work of the charity and how you can access screening can be found at : www.c-r-y.org.uk
