Michael Whitaker and Cassionato Withdrawn from Rio 2016

Wednesday 17 August 2016

Following yesterday's team jumping qualifying round, Michael Whitaker and Cassionato, who had qualified for todays third individual round in 42nd place, have yesterday evening been withdrawn from the remainder of the jumping competition.

After showing colic symptoms after yesterday’s round, the decision has been taken to withdraw Cassionato from today's competition.

GBR Jumping Performance Manager, Di Lampard said last night: “Obviously we’re all very, very disappointed for Michael and owners Gary and Beverley Widdowson. Cassionato is being treated in the veterinary clinic this evening and is in very good hands. It just shows the effort the horse put into today’s round.”

Team GB’s Nick Skelton and Ben Maher will both compete in today’s third round qualifier.
