Summer Pony Premier Delivers HOYS Qualification Excitement at Coombelands
The Summer Pony Premier at Coombelands welcomed another exciting weekend of top-class competition, as junior riders from across the country gathered to chase coveted Horse of the Year Show qualification places.
Quincy Flood Claims Pony Showjumper of the Year Victory
The first of the HOYS qualifiers to take centre stage was the Pony Showjumper of the Year class, where 19 rider combinations stepped forward to tackle a testing track designed by Ben Townley. Producing the only clear round of the competition, Quincy Flood secured victory aboard Louise Adams' Hector Laenen Roshoeve, earning a well-deserved Horse of the Year Show qualification. Finishing in second place was Ella Kay riding Lucky Clover Boy, who also delivered an impressive performance with just four faults from the opening round.
Annabel Widdowson Dominates 128cm HOYS Qualifier
The Horse of the Year Show 128cm Qualifier attracted a strong field of 31 rider combinations. With only eight combinations managing to jump clear through both qualifying rounds, an exciting jump-off lay ahead. It was Annabel Widdowson who ultimately came out on top aboard Alison Irvine's Bunbury Conquest, producing a faultless jump-off round in 31.24 seconds. Mila Henderson and Doylan Honey Glint claimed second place after stopping the clock in 32.61 seconds, while Oakley Nash partnered Cadlanvalley Teddy Edward to third place with the final double clear effort in 33.19 seconds.
Anya Dewey Clarke takes victory in the 138cm HOYS Qualifier
Competition remained fierce in the Horse of the Year Show 138cm Qualifier, where 32 rider combinations came forward. Nine combinations successfully negotiated the first two rounds to secure their place in the jump-off. Anya Dewey Clarke and Anna Clarke's Fredaine De Blonde delivered a superb performance to take victory, crossing the finish line clear in 34.27 seconds. Eleanor Bastain-Mason and Jimdone secured second place with a clear round in 35.35 seconds, while Amy Capper and Ruby Brown completed the podium positions after producing another faultless effort in 35.99 seconds.
The Summer Pony Premier once again showcased the depth of talent within British pony showjumping, with riders demonstrating determination, skill and composure under pressure as they competed for their place at the Horse of the Year Show later this year. Congratulations to all the riders who secured qualification and those who delivered standout performances throughout a fantastic weekend of competition at Coombelands.
