COVID-19 Update for Coaches

British Showjumping have received clarity from their insurers SEIB in respect of training activity being undertaken independently by coaches, who are recognised and listed with the Association, during this period of national lockdown.

The advice being given to all those that meet the criteria above and who have privately taken out an insurance policy with SEIB to cover their training activities is as follows:

  • Coaches must at all times abide by the  legal requirements expected of them
  • Coaches must follow all government and regulatory guidelines.
  • It is imperative that COVID-19  precautions are undertaken such as social distancing and that all government required protocols are maintained.
  • It is also important that in the event of a coach, or any member of their household, developing any COVID-19 symptoms that government guidance on self-isolation is strictly  followed.

Failure to follow regulatory guidelines and COVID-19 protocols may invalidate the insurance policy so it is key that these procedures are rigidly maintained and followed.

SEIB also ask all coaches to take into consideration any extra pressure that could be placed on the NHS during these difficult times as a result from riding accidents and to consider the potential health risk to clients and whether it is ‘essential’ for them to continue riding.  They do however understand the decision to continue working does ultimately rest with the coach and not themselves.

Please note that the above only applies to those who are recognised and listed with British Showjumping and who have taken out an independent insurance policy directly with SEIB.

For those coaches who have taken out a similar insurance policy with another organisation they will need to request advice from their own insurance provider.
