Course Designer Mark McGowan set a fair track for the first of the second rounds that took place on Saturday. Eight of the initial starting field made it through to the jump-off and in doing so secured their qualifying ticket.
Thirteen year-old Robyn Reilly from Kilwinning, Ayrshire made the short journey to Muirmill a successful one when she steered Carolanne Reilly’s G Sofi, a 12 year-old Dutch bred mare to the top spot with a double clear in a time of 39.34 seconds, just pipping twin sister Katie Reilly with Kabalou, a 9 year-old Dutch bred mare also owned by Carolanne. Only three of the eight qualifying tickets available for the 1.05m were claimed on Saturday as the Mark McGowan designed track seemed tough to conquer for most and it was the sole double clear who took the win.
Lucy Rennie from Ayr, South Ayrshire rode two accurate rounds with Elizabeth Smith’s 10 year-old Irish bred mare Ballylinan Black Beauty and crossed the finish line in 42.41 seconds to take the win. Marion Brown took second and third place. She rode Summer Solstice V into second with a time of 42.07 seconds but the first fence down cost them the win whilst her second ride Clarity S crossed the finish line in 44.00 seconds but with the penultimate fence falling they were left to pick up third place.
