Equiyd National Amateur Championship Second Rounds Continue with all the Action from South View Equestrian Centre

The Equiyd National Amateur Championship Second Rounds continued over the weekend at South View Equestrian Centre, where competitors produced some superb performances around flowing but testing courses designed by Gillian Milner.  All in the bid to qualify for the Equiyd National Amateur Championships, which will be held at Aintree Equestrian Centre in November.

 

Lesley Mitton claims victory in the 85cm Second Round

Sixteen competitors came forward to contest the Equiyd 85cm National Amateur Championship Qualifier, with fourteen combinations posting clear rounds it was all to play for in the jump off. Of the fourteen, ten competitors navigated successfully around the course, so time was of the essence and it was Lesley Mitton who claimed victory riding her own Penhill Rex with a double-clear in a quick time of 28.56 seconds. Close behind in second was Megan Kristie Cowan riding Kellie Cowan’s Hellza Poppet who jumped clear in a time of 29.43 seconds. Third place went to Freya Parker, riding Colien owned by Nina Emery-Moon, they stopped the clock in 29.67 seconds. The top three combinations were separated by little more than a second, a thrilling championship qualifier.

 

Abigail Leadbetter leads the way in 95cm Second Round

In the Equiyd 95cm National Amateur Championship Qualifier twenty-three combinations lined up for their chance to secure clear rounds and qualification. The pressure was on in the jump off with thirteen clears coming through from round one, producing a total of eight double clears across the class. The top three combinations produced impressive clear rounds and it was Abigail Leadbetter who took the win on her own Hearts Cruise, in a fast time of 28.82 seconds. Finishing a close second was Alexis Corbett, riding James Corbett’s Piper K, in a time of 29.47 seconds. Third place went to Jodie Simmonds, riding her own Noble Carismo, completing in 33.24 seconds.

 

Katie Burns takes the 1.05m Second Round win

A strong field of fifteen competitors contested the Equiyd 1.05m National Amateur Championship Qualifier, where the class showcased a mixture of speed and accuracy. Nine riders guided their horses around the first round successfully leaving all the fences intact. It was down to the clock to decide the top three as all combinations were determined to take victory but it was Katie Burns who could not be beaten, riding Vicky Burns Ipa De St Pierre, with an efficient clear round they stopped the clock on a time of 34.99 seconds. Second place went to Kristina Yeoman, riding her own Grimm De La Butte, in a time of 36.26 seconds and Jasmine Newsam concluded the top three with a time of 36.56 seconds onboard Eve Newsam’s Rineen Womanizer, with an equally impressive clear.

 

Danielle Nicola Perez tops the 1.10m Second Round

The Equiyd 1.10m National Amateur Championship Qualifier was won by Danielle Nicola Perez, riding her own One Poppy. They completed their winning round and sole double clear of the class in a time of 52.70 seconds. The remaining 2 riders, Kristina Yeoman riding Grimm De La Butte, and Megan Kristie Cowan riding Monticarno 8.8, chose to take joint second place and saved their horses for another day, withdrawing from the jump off.

 

All roads lead to Aintree

With the Second Round qualifiers now complete at South View Equestrian Centre, the focus turns firmly towards the Equiyd National Amateur Championships at Aintree in November.

For those who have secured their place, the countdown is officially on. With national titles on the line, competitors will now have their sights set on producing their very best performances when they return to the arena at Aintree.
