British Showjumping Team announced for CSIO5* Calgary FEI Nations Cup

Following an invitation to compete in the CSIO5* Nations Cup of Calgary (CAN), the following team have been selected to represent Great Britain. The competition takes place between the 6th – 10th September 2023 at the ‘Masters’ at Spruce Meadows, Canada.

  • Sameh El Dahan, based in County Antrim, Ireland, with the 10-year-old bay gelding WKD Toronto, owned by Joanne Sloan-Allen.
  • Ben Maher, from Hertfordshire, with the 14-year-old bay gelding Exit Remo, owned by Charlotte Rossetter and Pamela Wright.
  • Matt Sampson, from South Yorkshire, with the 10-year-old grey gelding Equine America Ivanhoe GPH, owned by Amy Mason.
  • John Whitaker, from West Yorkshire, with the 15-year-old bay gelding Equine America Unick Du Francport, jointly owned by Clare and John Whitaker.

The Nations Cup competition takes place on Saturday, 9 September at 14:00 local time (21:00 BST), while the Grand Prix will be on Sunday, 10 September at 13:30 local time (20:30 BST). The Chef d’Équipe for the team will be Di Lampard.

The Rolex Grand Prix in Spruce Meadows forms the second leg of The Rolex Grand Slam, following Aachen and is followed by Geneva and ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Any rider who wins the Grand Prix at Aachen, Spruce Meadows and Geneva in succession will win one million euros in addition to the prize money on offer. If that same rider continues their success by winning a fourth Major in succession, they will be rewarded with an additional 1 million Euro bonus. Great Britain’s Scott Brash is currently the only rider to have achieved this feat in 2015, riding the formidable Hello Sanctos,

The GBR showjumping teams are supported by the British Equestrian Federation’s World Class Programme, funded by UK Sport through the National Lottery. The Programme focuses on identifying talent, developing potential and maximising medal-winning performances on the world stage. The teams are further supported by LeMieux, who supply the teams with their saddlepads and rugs
