British Showjumping’s Team Cavalor finish 6th in Hickstead leg of the Furusiyya Nations Cup series.

British Showjumping’s Team Cavalor, who contested the UK leg of the CSIO 5* FEI Furusiyya Nations Cup at The Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead this afternoon, finished in 6th place despite some solid performances across the team.
Finishing in 6th place means the British Team face relegation from European Division 1 in the Furusiyya Nations Cup series for next year. It was Germany who took 1st place having dominated from the start with just 4 penalties which they picked up in the second round.
Ireland and Belgium shared 2nd place on 8 penalties whilst the USA and Switzerland shared 4th one place behind them on 12 penalties. For Great Britain it was a 20 penalty finish score which saw them slide down the placings in the second round despite two clears having been delivered in the first round.
Ben Maher from Bishops Stortford with the British Bred 11 year-old chestnut mare Diva II which he jointly owns with Tatiana Korsakova took the role of pathfinder. Their 4 penalty finish in the first round was matched in the second round when a pole rolled from it’s cup in each instance.
Tim Stockdale from Roade, Northants with Marjorie and Clark Glasgow’s 11 year-old bay mare Fleur de l’Aube produced the first clear for the team with his first round performance. Their second round saw them pick up an unfortunate 4 penalties mid way round the course, in what was otherwise a great round within the time allowed.
Jess Mendoza, who is based in The Netherlands, with the British Bred 15 year-old brown mare Spirit T owned by Sarah Mendoza came next for the team and mirrored Tim’s performance with another superb clear to come home on a zero penalty score for GB. Their second round saw two fences lowered towards the end of the course for them to pick up 8 penalties.
Scott Brash from Peebles with Hello Guv’nor an 11 year-old bay gelding owned by Lord & Lady Kirkham and Lord & Lady Harris were making their first appearance as a combination on a top level team that falls within the Furusiyya Nations Cup series. An error early on the course in round 1 saw them accrue 4 penalties with the second round seeing them accrue 8 penalties with two fences down at the latter end of the course.
This saw the Brits finish on a total of 20 penalties and slide down the final line up into 6th place in what was the last point scoring competition of the series for them.
The Longines International Horse Show continues through until Sunday with the Queen Elizabeth Cup being contested tomorrow and then the King George V Grand Prix on Sunday.
