Glory for Benjamin Bick & If Evers Girl M.S in the Opening Events Through A Lens Talent Seeker Incorporating the 7-Year-Old Championship Qualifier at Chard Equestrian

On Friday 10th May, Chard Equestrian hosted the first Events Through A Lens Talent Seeker Incorporating the 7-Year-Old Championship Qualifier of 2024. This British Showjumping series brings together top talent from Grades B & C, alongside promising 7-year-olds, all vying for a coveted spot in the final at the Horse of the Year Show in October.

It was a packed field with 80 horse and rider combinations competing in the initial round, which was cleared by an impressive 32 starters, advancing them to the jump-off.

The victory went to Benjamin Bick riding Abbie Summer’s If Evers Girl M.S, clocking a time of 41.76, 1.57 seconds faster than second placed Mark Bunting and Kiaminka.

Originally purchased by Abbie as a five year-old, Abbie enjoyed considerable success riding If Ever’s Girl as a 6 & 7-year-old. Sharing the ride with Ben since 2023, an unfortunate injury for Abbie saw Ben take the reins, last month.

Abbie shared her thoughts, saying, "She jumped all the qualifiers last year, narrowly missing out on a spot in the final each time. After my injury, she had some downtime, she’s only done a few shows prior to this. But she was brilliant at Chard."

When asked about her preference between riding herself or watching Ben in the ring, Abbie expressed her confidence in Ben's abilities, saying, "I like watching. Ben is such a good rider, and I believe in him 100%. I don’t get nervous because I know he’s so good and she’s so careful. She’s a lovely horse, and I’m really proud of them both; they’ve done such a good job."
