Joe Trunkfield and Tankardstown No Diggity Triumph at Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Second Round

Arena UK played host to the final Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Second Round competition, setting the stage for the Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships next month at Stoneleigh

A total of 56 horse and rider combinations tackled Course Designers’ Neil Foster and Declan Perry’s first round track, with 16 successfully advancing to the final jump-off.

A hard-fought battle saw Joe Trunkfield emerge victorious aboard Joy Rushton’s 8-year-old mare, Tankardstown No Diggity, posting the fastest time of the competition. Trunkfield, who had already gone treble clear and fast with his other ride, Mimosa Van Overis Z, ultimately finishing 5th, knew exactly what was needed to clinch the win. “I knew I had to have a go and it was going to have to be fast. She’s a naturally quick horse. By the third round, the jumps are big, which isn’t something you have to worry about with her, so it was just up to me to get it right,” said Joe.

Their winning time was an impressive 3.59 seconds faster then second place, Thomas Dovkants and Paparezzo De W&S, who had initially set the pace for Joe to beat. Reflecting on his ride, Joe mentioned, “I only took on the ride 4 months ago. She didn’t start jumping until she was 6, but her owner, Joy, was looking for her to be produced a bit further. I actually only ride her at shows; Joy keeps her fit at home. She’s been working on getting her fitter.

“She’s going really well, she’s been there or there abouts all season and just missed out on qualifications, so it’s nice to have got there. She’s just getting better all the time”

This isn’t Joe’s first time in the Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Final, with a career best in this class of second in 2021.

As the Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Second Round Competitions of 2024 conclude, all eyes now turn to the Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships, the riders' last chance to qualify for the final at the Horse of the Year Show in October.
