Lottie Tutt & Colours of Romeo Win Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round at South View Equestrian Centre
Monday 01 June 2015
Lottie Tutt built on last weekend’s win in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at Sparsholt College by also taking victory in yesterday’s Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round at South View Equestrian Centre in Winsford, Cheshire.
Forty-one combinations started out in this second round and just six remained in the competition ahead of the final jump off. With just three direct qualifying places on offer for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show, the final jump off proved to be well fought as riders focused on taking one of these places as their own.
Just two treble clears were produced overall and the fastest of these came from 14 year-old Lottie Tutt, from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire with Penny Grimster’s 8 year-old appaloosa mare Colours of Romeo. Continuing their good run of form, Lottie and Colours of Romeo produced another immaculate and strong round to finish up on 0 faults in 37.43 seconds. This result was to prove good enough to eventually give them a nearly 3.5 second advantage over second place.
The only other treble clear came from 13 year-old Tahnia Jordan Jones from Swindon, Wiltshire and she rode her mother Julie’s 11 year-old bay gelding Sulan Hollywood Knight into second place. They produced their solid treble clear in 40.91 seconds.
Third place went to 16 year-old Jessica Hewitt from Pontefract, West Yorkshire as she secured the fastest 4 fault round on board Little Miss Boss, a 14 year-old bay mare owned by Tig Matthews. Jessica was unfortunate to have the penultimate fence down, but her time of 35.42 seconds ensured that a place in the Championship Final was secured.
With the three direct qualifying tickets for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show having been allocated, the combinations in fourth and fifth took home the chance to compete in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters at the forthcoming British Showjumping National Championships.
