Hannah Thorne lands the NAF Five Star Summer Bronze Qualifier at Dorset Showground

Hannah Thorne claimed victory in the NAF Five Star Summer Bronze League qualifier at Dorset Showground with Cinderella.

Fifty-three competitors tackled a 1.05m course and 35 produced initial clears to qualify for round two and an eventual 22 accessed the third and final round.  With 10 supplying treble clears, the clock played a major role.

Hannah and Cinderella, her Cardento x Climax 15-year-old partner of almost six years, were on form after winning the Keith Price Garages 1.10m Welsh Masters Final at the David Broome Event Centre, Chepstow, two weeks earlier. The confidence showed as she took the tightest lines to secure victory with 0.95 seconds to spare.

“She’s very talented and she’d be a house pet she’s so lovely, a rare combination for a mare,” said Hannah, who is based in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset.

A check ligament injury in 2021 meant ‘Cindy’ was out of action for 18 months.

“We brought her back very slowly and she didn’t jump again until July 2022.  She qualified for the Blue Chip Championships but we decided to make the Welsh Masters our first stay-away show for this year.  She hadn’t jumped for three weeks but she knows her job so we only go hacking in the week, it keeps her fresh and happy,” added Hannah.  “She’s a dream but she does live up to her name, she’s a show-off.  We spoil her in a nice but she’s worth it, she gives 110% every single time, she tries her heart out.”

Hannah admits to feeling nervous before she goes in the ring: “No-one can understand it as they say I compete all the time; it’s not nerves it’s because I don’t want to let Cindy down but as long as she gets her feed, she’s not bothered.  She’s only jumped two big classes this year and won both of them, now she’ll have a week in the field to relax.”

Maisie Talbot eased Miss Controversy into second place and Helen Anderson clinched third place aboard Hazelwood Baloubelle.
