Jessica Botham wins the Lord & Lady Equestrian Senior Newcomers Masters

On a winning streak, Jessica Botham took the title in the Lord & Lady Equestrian Senior Newcomers Masters riding 7-year-old Manzanita. Eleven combinations progressed through to the thrilling jump-off on the penultimate day of the British Showjumping National & Academy Championship, held at NAEC Stoneleigh. It was hard fought for with all wanting to pick up one of the four qualifications available for the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) Final in October.

“It was a great first course, technical but jumpable, and the jump off was smooth and quick. It was 7 or 8 strides to the last but we pushed for 7 and it paid off” explained Jessica.

The combination qualified at Arena UK before coming to compete today. Their winning streak started with a victory in the 7-year-old class last week at Weston Lawns, and then continued in the Foxhunter yesterday.

Bred to event, Manzanita is by Cevin Z from a Gunner B thoroughbred mare, and her uncle, owned by the same breeder, went around badminton in recent years.

Completing the jump-off round in 38.22 seconds, the two made it home with a time that was impossible for any other competitors to catch. Megan James and Jolita L came in second place, with Abbie Bevan and Castlelawn Miss Junior close behind in third.
