Lucy Townley & British Bred mare Billy Nikon wins Equitop GLME Senior Foxhunter Championship

Lucy Townley with the British Bred mare Billy Nikon wins Equitop GLME Senior Foxhunter Championship.

It was an incredible end to the evening performance at the Horse of The Year Show tonight when Lucy Townley took the prestigious and highly sought after Equitop GLME Senior Foxhunter Championship title.

Riding the British Bred seven year-old bay mare Billy Nikon owned by The Billy Stud they delivered an absolutely breathtaking performance to secure the lead with their jump-off clear in a time of 42.63 seconds.  Their time was just over two seconds faster then Joseph Trunkfield on John Steels’ bay stallion Idwerd who broke the finish line in 44.69 seconds.

Oliver Fletcher took 3rd, as the fastest combination of the remaining seven strong jump off field, aboard BP Pocahontas owned by Alison Walton whilst Robert Murphy and Lightning TW owned by Peter Charles took 4th making it their second time in the HOYS Line up this week having won the Senior Newcomers just 24 hours before.

Talking about her win Lucy said “When the one before me jumped clear I thought you just have to ride it like you want to ride it and as Will Funnell always says to me don’t ride it like you want to jump a clear, just go for it and stick to your plan which is what I did”.  About her horse and what it meant to win at HOYS  she said “The mare [Billy Nikon]  is phenomenal. She won the Foxhunter Masters at the Nationals and we’ve kept and planned her for this and it’s paid off. I never thought I’d win here, I’ve been coming here since I was teeny tiny. To be stood here now is unbelievable.”
