Sophie & Sue Scoop Victories at Hargate Equestrian Centre in Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds

Ninety-six combinations started out across the Dodson & Horrell 0.85m and 1.05m National Amateur Second Rounds at Hargate Equestrian Centre in Hilton, Derbyshire on Sunday and each starter was focused on claiming one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool (18th – 22nd November).
Dodson & Horrell 0.85m National Amateur Second Round
Fifty-nine combinations contested this second round and spectators were treated to a competitive jump off in which thirty competed. An impressive seventeen double clears were produced, but with just the twelve qualifying places on offer, the times were to become crucial.
Sophie Corney from Scunthorpe, South Humberside took home the victory with her own 19 year-old bay mare Ocean Breeze II after they delivered their double clear in 31.94 seconds. They were the only combination able to break the 32 seconds barrier.
Fifteen year-old Katie Benbow from Goole, North Humberside finished in second on her father Simon’s 9 year-old chestnut mare Ruby St Loise. They produced two immaculate rounds in 33.19 seconds.
Third place was secured by Jodie Coleman from Gnosall, Staffordshire on her own 14 year-old bay mare Ursa after they clocked up their double clear in 33.57 seconds.

Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Second Round
Sue Pountain from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire beat thirty-six other combinations to win this second round on Ruth Rothwell’s 22 year-old bay gelding Mac O Mara. The combination produced their double clear in a time of 36.73 seconds, giving them nearly four seconds in hand over their nearest rivals.
Local rider Yasmin Davies from Hilton, Derbyshire finished in second with her own 9 year-old bay gelding U Go Boss after they completed with a double clear in 40.04 seconds.
Improving on her result in the 0.85m second round was Nicola Roe from Alfreton, Derbyshire on her own 8 year-old tri coloured gelding Ashwood Kajinka. They finished up in third with their double clear in 43.96 seconds.
