Tilly Bamford and Dizzy Rascal claim the 138cm Championships

Oxfordshire’s Tilly Bamford,  made her debut at Horse of the Year Show one to remember when she claimed the 138cm Championship riding the 14 year-old grey mare Dizzy Rascal. With eight combinations clear and through to the jump off there was all to play for and it was clear that the riders coming forward knew it.  Setting the pace was Tabitha Kyle with the first of her three rides, Another Barney, who set the bar high by jumping clear in a time of 34.02 seconds/

Third to go and riding full throttle, Tilly lay down the gauntlet when the clock stopped on 33.32 seconds, taking the lead. It was a tense wait with five combinations left to go, second to last to go Lara Boman went clear in 39.23 seconds to take 3rd place. The 2019 champion Tabitha Kyle was last to go, the time was good but an unlucky pole down slotted her into 4th place.

An excited Tilly commented “It was amazing. I’m really happy with Dizzy. I’ve only had her for a year and a half now and she did her best for me. I knew that Tabitha was very fast and I just thought about turning tight and staying as smooth as I could and having the least amount of strides as I could down the distances.  I got a bit close in a few places but he helped me out so much and she really tried her best.  I was a bit nervous, but I think they were good nerves and once I was in there [the arena] I forgot the crowds were there.
