Will Funnell wins CSI3* Grand Prix & Joe Stockdale 3rd in Gorla Minore

It was a great day for the Brits in Gorla Minore, Italy this afternoon when Will Funnell won the CSI3* 1.50m Grand Prix on the homebred and owned 11 year-old gelding Equine America Billy Diamo from a field of fifty-eight competitors.

The eight strong jump-off, made up of those who had jumped clear in the first round, saw Will also  joined by fellow Brit and young rider Joe Stockdale with the 10 year-old mare Equine America Cacharel owned by Joy Cocklin.   It was Will who took the victory with his impressive double clear on the scopey Billy Diamo (Cevin Z x Adiamo) having set an incredibly fast time of 41.79 seconds.

With the pressure on, it was only five that managed to achieve another clear with three of the eight having picked up four penalties apiece.  It was Felipe Amaral (BRA) that took 2nd with Germanico T with their clear in a time of 42.42 seconds whilst Joe, who is mentored and helped by Will & Pippa Funnell, took 3rd with the home produced mare Cacahrel (Cachas x Quinar) .

Billy Diamo’s performance today would have sat well with Will as they will soon be heading out to represent Great Britain in St Gallen, Switzerland for the CSIO5* Nations Cup competition that takes place between the 3 – 6 June.  For Joe, who is heavily focused on securing his place on nations cup squads this season, Cacharel’s consistent performance is one that he would also have been delighted with.
