Win for Olivia Sponer in the Pony Discovery Championship Final

The second to last class of the day at the British Showjumping National & Academy Championships 2021 was the Pony Discovery Championship Final. The class saw a large field of seventy-nine competitors to come forward, and despite exceptional talent on display, just eleven combinations were to go through and challenge the jump off to take the title.

In the fastest time, and taking the Pony Discovery title, was 14-year-old Olivia Sponer riding 7-year-old bay mare Conella who where one of the only three combinations to achieve a double clear in 29.44 seconds.

Speaking with the winner, Olivia explained “I’m looking forward to going to HOYS! It’s my birthday next week so this is a great start to the celebrations.” The pair have been competing together for just over a year, and Conella II, known as Dinky at home, is going to have a short break after this week.

In an exceptionally close jump off, and just 1 second behind the winning pair’s time of 29.44s, was second place combination Sophia Taylor, and her 7 year-old bay mare Falcons Poppy.
