Chloe Reynolds wins the Big Star Championship
Sunday 13 August 2017
The last of the young horse classes at the British Showjumping National Championships was the recently renamed Big Star Championship for six year olds. The class has been renamed to honour Nick Skelton’s Olympic Champion ‘Big Star’ who won the Championship in 2009. The rename will keep the stallion’s legacy alive after he made history at Rio in 2016.
First to take this new title was Chloe Reynolds riding Grenadier Volo. The winning pair from Somerset demonstrated they had a great partnership when they made it through the three rounds producing lovely treble clears and jumping the final round in a quick time of 40.93 seconds.
Chloe commented: “I felt it was a decent course today and he jumped it so well. Coming into the jump off I felt the course needed to be treated with respect as there were a few tight turns. He’s such a good horse with the heart of a lion, he tries his best every time he goes into the ring. I am so pleased with our result today.”
With the class being spread over three rounds, the horses had to demonstrate a high level of consistency, as well as demonstrate good style and technique. Finishing in second place was Beth Vernon riding The Movie Star.
