Alexander Mclean Wins Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final Second Round at South View Equestrian Centre Pony Premier Show

Yesterday’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round held during the Pony Premier Show at South View Equestrian Centre in Winsford, Cheshire proved to be popular with competitors and spectators saw seventy-six combinations battle it out for a place in the Championship Final.

With just two direct qualifying places available for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show, each rider was focused on producing a treble clear as they knew that this would give them the best chance of taking one of the coveted qualification spots as their very own.

An impressive twenty-two combinations made it into the final jump off and five produced that all important treble clear. With just the two qualification places up for grabs, the allocation was to come down to the ever crucial clock.

Improving on his result from the previous day in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round was Alexander Mclean, aged 12, from Lasswade, Midlothian. He took victory in this second round on board Marjory McNaughton’s 8 year-old grey gelding Tobar King. Alexander was drawn in the advantageous position of being last to go in the jump off and he capitalised on this. Having seen what his rivals had done, Alexander produced an immaculate and quick round to deliver his treble clear in 42.78 seconds.

Nicole Lockhead Anderson, aged 13, from Banchory, Kincardineshire took second place with Niki Caira’s 6 year-old bay gelding Gangnam Style II. This combination produced their treble clear in time of 43.27 seconds and this proved to be fast enough for a qualification place.

With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show, the riders and ponies that finished in third to fifth missed out on their Championship qualification this time around. However, they did take home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
